Hope Springs, 2012, 6.3/10 “After thirty years of marriage, a middle-aged couple attends an intense, week-long counselling session to work on their relationship.” As awkward as this movie can be at times, its kind of really cute. Nice causal movie, but a warning, there are some scenes that will make you think, and then wish you didn’t if you know what I mean! 6/10 #merylstreep#hopesprings
The Hours, 2002 An introspective story about a writer, a mother and an editor. the writer is too imaginative and sensitive to the surrounding world that her emotions can be triggered by the most trivial happenings around her; the mother is bored by the domestic normalcy and drowns herself in the false realms of reality of books; the editor, though easily satisfied with the simple gifts in life, keeps questioning the unchecked possibilities in youth, whether her life could be any happier if she had chosen a different path. Being stuck in the same kind of life redundancy, the three women chose a different way out. Though never mentioned in the movie, I see their ways out as a celebration of the evolution of feminism, for one is less tragic than the other, for women are granted more freedom to express and to choose as time changes, they are no longer to oblige to societal norms nor play by the book, but rather do things for the sake of their own happiness.
