This week, September 17 - 23, is Surgical Technologists Week! Surgical Technologists are the backbone of the Operating Room. Surgeries wouldn't succeed without you so thank you! We really appreciate your hard work and dedication to the medical field.
CLC MEMBER FEATURE: Hi everyone! I'm Erin and I'm a goofy, fun, 22-years-old cat mom! I was diagnosed at 2 with Cystic Fibrosis. I was very healthy until high school and since then my lungs have started to decline. I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes (CFRD) a few years ago and haven't found a doctor to help me control them yet. • I went to college 8 hours away from my home town and was health for most of my college years. I even traveled to Ireland and Costa Rica (and got a tattoo in CR 🙈) during college! I was doing great and then suddenly I wasn't. • In June of 2016 I suddenly needed glasses for the first time ever and developed mystery symptoms including visual snow, stomach pain, and chronic nausea. I ended up in the hospital a week after my last semester of college started in September 2016 and missed a month of class. • To date I've had a battery of tests done, my appendix and gallbladder have been taken out, and I've switched my care to Mayo Clinic to try and find answers. We are still trying to figure out all what is going on with me, but I'm determined to keep fighting and living life as best I can! #chronicloveclub
OR Wednesday! People are nice enough to let me help out with the large head and neck cancer resections and reconstructions that happen usually on Wednesdays. Got to close a whole 14-15 inches of real estate today!

“I was a phrenic nerve patient of Dr. Kaufman a little over three (3) years ago. Prior to the surgery, I promised myself that if the surgery was successful and my breathing was restored, I would not waste this second chance. In September, I completed a 170-mile hike on the #CaminosdeSantiago in northern #Spain . I am hoping to return each year until I have completed the 500 mile Caminos. You absolutely changed my life and I am forever grateful!” #Testimonial *Image not of actual patient.
Reptiles can be slow to wake up after #surgery . Manual ventilation with room air will often speed this process up. For many reptiles, the stimulus to breath is reduced when on pure oxygen under the anaesthetic. By using room air to ventilate, this can sometimes result in spontaneous breathing more quickly. Other contributing factors to slow wake ups are reduced body temperature, concurrent disease and the combination of drugs used. All of these factors are taken into account and adjusted to meet the reptiles specific requirements. #herp_surgery#slowandsteady
No trabalho, sua visão não tem preço! 👀😉 Os óculos de proteção são fundamentais para proteger a saúde dos olhos em ambientes que ofereçam riscos. Algumas lesões nos olhos são irreversíveis e podem até causar a cegueira.
In the UK after my first surgery, I was given no information and I was told it's gone now and won't come back. After doing my own research and seeing a number of specialists, I have been told the complete opposite and they have been shocked that I was made to believe this wasn't a chronic condition that needs treatment in order to slow the progression of the disorder down. Its shocking how little is known about this condition and how many people must be in the same boat, receiving this incorrect information, which means more suffering and time wasted not beginning to treat the symptoms. Just like many other disorders and diseases out there, not a lot is known until it effects yourself, but I hope by raising awareness that at least those who are supposed to specialise in this area can better understand it, so they can provide the best possible outcome for every patient. ♥ #endo#endometriosis#raiseawareness#endometriosisawareness#share#surgery#nhs#chronicillness#gethelp#endosisters
